PTFE Granular
Granular PTFE is made using the suspension polymerisiation process. It is almost completely chemically inert, even in very aggressive environments. It is a very good electrical and thermal insulator and has the lowest friction coefficient of any plastic. It maintains its properties over a very wide range of temperatures, (-200C to +260C)
Granular PTFE cannot be extruded like other plastics because the melt viscosity is very high. Instead, compression moulding, and in some cases isostatic moulding and ram extrusion, followed by sintering are the processes usually used.
To enhance the properties of PTFE, it is often blended with other materials, eg glass, carbons, metals, PEEK, other polymers, (PI, PEEK, PPS, PPSO2 etc), or minerals. We supply specialist grades of PTFE for blending.
Our range of granular PTFE’s includes non-free flows, free flows, high density free flows, and pre-sintered options, (for ram extrusion).
If lower deformation under load, improved flex resistance, better weldability, higher elongation or higher dielectric strength are required, we also have co-polymer modified granulars available in both free- and non-free-flow options.
